mynewhair on recent events at the Oscars 2022

Our statement from Darren Stuart, trustee and education lead: “Anyone who lives with a condition that affects their appearance lives with a near-constant reminder of what they’re going through. Unfortunately, this may also come with unwanted and unacceptable remarks or jokes. In an age where appearance is so closely linked to someone’s personal identity, these words can cause a lot of harm to people who may already be feeling very vulnerable. “At mynewhair, we work with many people who have alopecia and medical related hair loss. We understand the difficult emotions and situations they and their loved ones may face, and mynewhair is here to support anyone affected by hair loss. “Our work strives to make it more accessible for people living with hair loss to get the support they need. That’s why we work to educate our nationwide network of trained hair stylists – the Salons that Care – on how to support people living with hair loss as a result of medical treatments or conditions such as alopecia. That includes practical skills such as cutting and styling wigs, but also how to communicate and support people who are in a very vulnerable place. “We greatly appreciate all of the work that our Salons that Care do for people who experience medical hair loss, and we’re proud to make this service more and more accessible with every new hair professional that joins us.”
