About Us

mynewhair is the pioneering new charity founded by and inspired by Trevor Sorbie MBE.

We provide public advice and support a national network of independent salons and professionals who provide a wig styling service for people suffering from cancer and medical hair loss.

Importantly, each of these professionals have approached us personally. They pledge their commitment to responsible training and provide a caring and sensitive service for their clients.

We have produced a booklet of advice and information on what happens when you lose your hair, choosing a wig, having your wig styled to suit you and aftercare/ hair re-growth in conjunction with the Department of Health and Institute of Trichologists. We call it our Patient Information Resource - click here to download it now.

We provide training seminars for hair professionals, following completion of which these professionals become part of our salon network - Salons that Care. We have trained hundreds of hair professionals around the country to provide a wig cutting and advice service to those suffering from medical hair loss. You can access our database of salons here.

If you are  hair professional who is considering joining our network of Salons that Care, click here for more information on our training seminars.

Trevor is being joined by notable industry names, Andrew Collinge, Alan Edwards, Darren Gilbert and Shirley Thornhill of Umberto Giannini, Mark Hill, Guy Kremer, Charlie Miller, Andrew Mulvenna, Jon Chapman of Scruffs and Charles Worthington who have agreed to offer clients advice on wig purchases and then customise their look.

Trevor’s wig experience began backstage, and behind the camera, at high profile shoots and shows, so through the years he has had every opportunity to identify the perfect wig supplier and his current choice is Trendco. “There are hundreds of wigs to choose from with Trendco and they have suppliers all over the UK. They can normally deliver the next day by mail and the quality is first class.” says Trevor.

As hairdressers pledge their support of Trevor’s new initiative he will continue to commit his time, skill and energy to helping women suffering from hair loss to feel great about wearing wigs. As Tracey, one grateful customer put it: “I can’t praise Trevor enough for what he is doing for people like me. He has made a brilliant job of transforming my wig from what looked like a hat into a personalised style and he made the whole experience a joy.

My personal goal is also a passionate promise. To make this service accessible to women around the UK and long term around the world.

TREVOR SORBIE

I feel my incredible career to date has led me to this moment, this opportunity to help people and I am so grateful that I have the skills to pull this off. my new hair isn’t just about hair, it’s psychological medicine for women suffering from hair loss through illness and for many of the women I have seen, it’s the missing link in their treatment. Giving women back their hair – hair that looks natural, attractive and feminine gives them back a little of the confidence to face the world in their darkest hour. It was my personal experience of helping a family member during cancer treatment that inspired the idea of my new hair.
