MYNEWHAIR SUPPORTERS TAKE PART IN CHARITY DOG WALK

Renowned British celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie MBE led a charity dog walk in his local town in aid of his pioneering medical hair loss charity mynewhair, raising over £2,000.

Walkies for mynewhair saw over 80 people and their pooches from across Hampshire embark on a one-mile walk along Gosport’s Stokes Bay Beach promenade on Sunday, 29thSeptember to support people suffering hair loss from cancer or alopecia.

Trevor and his wife Carole took the lead on Sunday morning with Lisbon, the couple’s 19-month-old King Charles Cavalier.

Trevor said: “I was humbled by how many people joined myself, my wife Carole and our precious Lisbon for the charity dog walk. I can’t thank everyone enough who despite the wet weather took part and our amazing event supporters for making Walkies for mynewhair such a fantastic fundraiser.

“It was such a wonderful day, from taking in the beautiful beach views to enjoying an afternoon of live music, great food and much more. I loved meeting everyone and all of their pooches along with Lisbon, my beloved King Charles Cavalier.

“mynewhair isn’t just about hair, it’s psychological medicine for people suffering from hair loss through illness and for many people it’s the missing link in their treatment. The funds raised by Walkies for mynewhair will help the charity to support those affected by cancer or alopecia across the UK and Ireland.”

Trevor lives in Gopsort and last year converted a room in his home where he offers a free wig-customisation service primarily to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Hampshire and the surrounding areas.

Trevor added: “I’m world-famous, but mynewhair means more to me. God gave me a gift and I've used it pretty well up until now. This is perhaps the most important part of that gift and I’m using it to help people.

My wife and I have tried to make the room homely – not like a salon but somewhere comfortable, reassuring. I want each client to feel in safe hands. I give my time for free and willingly. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and if I can touch a lot of hearts, especially in this day and age, by helping others, I think that is something very special.”

mynewhair was founded by Trevor Sorbie MBE in 2006, in memory of his sister-in-law, Jackie, who lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy for bone cancer and is the only national charity dedicated to providing information, advice and support to people experiencing medical hair loss.

The pioneering charity supports and trains a network of over 800 independent salons and 1,000 trained hair professionals across the UK and Ireland, all providing a wig-customisation service for their clients.
