A plea for more hairdressers to get involved with mynewhair and take part in the training!

01 October 2016

7/8 years ago I attended the mynewhair seminars, level 1&2 , to help those going through chemotherapy. I had lost a friend who I had suffered from cancer and helped with her wig styling and supported her through her hair loss. After offering my services voluntary for 2 years to gain experience I started a service from my salon in Prestatyn. My salon operates over 3 floors, a hair and beauty salon that offers a wide range of treatments including a private wig service, offering free consultations , the supply of many makes of wigs and cutting & styling. I set up a wig bank service to help those who are unable to afford more than one wig, or fancy a change if they are going somewhere special. I started to work with the charity Look Good Feel Better offering workshops from the salon and I am now pleased to offer a service on behalf of the NHS as we are one of 3 nominated NHS wig suppliers for the patients that suffer hair loss in North Wales. I have been nominated the regional co-ordinator in North Wales for look good feel better and we will be offering master classes from 28th November 2016. We work on behalf of the little Princess Trust and Alopecia uk and are thrilled to be able to offer patients a choice of location to chose their wig as we offer the service via the salon, hospital and through home visits. I wanted to thank the people who I learnt so much from in completing my mynewhair course. They inspired me to gain experience and follow my dream of helping those with medical hair loss conditions. I just wish more hairdressers like myself would realise how important this service is and would get involved in the training for this much needed service.

We are working with the charity's little princess trust also. Working on a school project to teach little people about the effects of hair loss between adults and children. As now we are the only salon in North Wales offering an NHS wig service we want to make hair loss something that children are not scared of.
