Level 1 Training Seminar

Morning Session

Introduction to my new hair

Trevor opens the seminar session with a frank and open introduction on why and how he personally became involved in supporting people with medical hair loss.

He will show a short DVD that describes the my new hair programme and offers some insight into the impact that this has for people who use the service.

Wig cutting demonstration - short hair and long hair wigs

Trevor demonstrates the art of wrapping a model's hair under the wig before demonstrating the cutting of both a short and a long hairstyle. This is an informal demonstration and questions are actively encouraged from the delegates throughout this part of the session.

Communications Workshop - The Communication Equation

The Communication Equation delivers a tailor-made skills session that explores how we interact when talking to people with medical hair loss. Always cited as one of the most enjoyable parts of the day, professionals will gain confidence in their ability to talk to vulnerable clients. The session is facilitated by trained nurses who are very experienced in techniques that improve communication skills. Participants have a unique opportunity to rehearse their interactions in a safe and open environment.

Afternoon Session

During lunch there will be an opportunity to ask questions and to discuss additional support requirements for information.

Technical supervision - wig cutting for hair professionals

(Please note that this sessions is not open to observers)

This is a closed session open only to hair professionals training to cut wigs as part of the my new hair programme. Each delegate will be provided with two wigs for cutting. The session will be supervised by Trevor Sorbie.

Session ends approximately 4pm

Additional information for training seminar at level 2:
Please note that this is an introductory seminar to my new hair. In order to gain confidence in providing this service, delegates will require time to acquire experience.

Note: Information on wig supply
In response to many requests for information on this subject , whilst Trevor Sorbie does not manufacture or endorse any one particular range of product, we are pleased to answer general questions. Our core training programme held at the L'oreal Academy usually includes a volunteer member of the HBSA as an 'advisor' on technical wig questions, however for bespoke training sessions there will not be a HBSA member present.

You may wish to bring a camera and still photographs are permitted on the day. The use of video equipment is strictly prohibited. Press photography and camera use must be authorised through SCPR & my new hair.

The advanced skills course covers additional technical cutting of a human hair wig, with advice on 'troubleshooting' from a technical wig advisor, aftercare workshop and an advanced supportive communications workshop.

Please note: this seminar programme is only for hair professionals who have previously trained with my new hair, as it is a follow-up to the first training day.

The advanced programme is a highly recommended follow-up and is a full day course. It is supported by a technical resource and DVD available to delegates who invest the time to attend this important follow-up.
